The SDPP deliverables components have been conceived following Bronfenbrenner’s ecological framework on child development:
- Micro-system: The Child
- Meso-System: The Family
- Exo-System: The Community
- Macro-System: (Documents with recommendations for) Agencies and Policy Makers (in development)
The deliverables component addresses the preliminary findings of two studies that correspond to the research component of the SDPP project: “An Interdisciplinary Study of the Trajectories of At-Risk Children, Phase 1: Health Trajectories” and “A Case Study of the Children and Families in the Infant Development Program of BC”.
- The organization of the questionnaires and the selection of the different items have undergone careful revision and feedback by members of the HELP team representing a multiplicity of perspectives including parents, community liaison professionals, academic and applied research skills.
The micro-system component includes a series of questionnaires on child development for parents to fill in. (Please refer to Sub-Section A of the Micro Questionnaire).
- The questions are geared to address and validate parents’ concerns about their child’s overall or specific developmental areas
- At the same time they will assist parents in identifying their child’s unique needs, and seeking the appropriate resources and services to address these needs, according to the family’s geographical location in BC’s Lower Mainland
- Parents can print and fill out these questionnaires on their own, or with the help of an early intervention/child development/social or family worker service provider
- It is important to reiterate that these questionnaires are not to be used for the purposes of testing or diagnosis. It is also important to reiterate that should a parent have any concerns about their child’s development, they should consult a physician or a public health nurse as soon as possible.
With the collaboration and support from the IDP of BC, the SDPP partner organization, the meso- and exo-system questionnaires will be edited and updated according to the feedback and comments received from parent and service providers using them.
There will be printed versions of these tools available in a multilingual format throughout the different communities in BC’s Lower Mainland (see interactive map).
